Alan Ray Crockett

December 26, 1941 – October 29, 2017

Alan R. Crockett, age 75, resident of Ponca City, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 29, 2017 in Ponca City.

Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home from 5-8pm Tuesday, October 31 and 8am-8pm with the family present to greet friends from 5-7pm Wednesday, November 1. A funeral ceremony to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Albright United Methodist Church with Reverend April Coates officiating. Following the ceremony, Alan will be laid to rest at the Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Alan was born in Ponca City on December 26, 1941 the eldest of four children to William Nevada Crockett and Sarah Loraine Crockett. He was raised in Ponca City graduating with the class of 1959 before going to college at OSU for a couple of years. On July 9, 1966 Nancy Jo Pulliam became his wife in Ponca City. After college, Alan joined the U.S. Army Reserve. One of his fellow reservists noticed Alan’s keen eye for detail and recommended him to apply at the Conoco Refinery. Alan was a good fit and in 1967 he began a 29 year career with Conoco before retiring in 1996 as an engineering inspector. Alan lived a well rounded life. His passions included music, family history, a deep spiritual faith, and love for his church family. Music played a lifelong role in Alan’s life with the banjo being his primary instrument. Through the years, he played folk and bluegrass music with various musicians around the area, more recently accompanying his Sunday School class with their bible hymns. Alan also looked forward to the annual Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield. When Alan would travel, often times it was to sites with connection to his family history. He chased the genealogy of his own family, finding their relationship to Davy Crockett. His genealogical pursuits drew him to the Pioneer Genealogical Society where he was currently serving as the President. Alan stayed busy with his current family, doting on his wife and daughters. When their daughters were on the Ponca City Sailfish Swim Team, Alan was normally nearby and involved in the timing and planning of their swim meets. The strong faith Alan held was evident in his relationship with his community and especially at Albright United Methodist Church. Since the early 1970’s, Albright has been Alan’s church home. During that time he has served in numerous areas including as a member of the bell choir, voice choir, a trustee and as a fix it, make it work engineer type man that he was. All the while, he served quietly looking where he could do the most without making any fuss about himself. He will be missed greatly by his family, friends, and his church.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Nancy of the home, adored daughters: Tama Hill and husband Sam of Bartlesville, OK, Camille Griffith and husband Jim of Maramec, OK; cherished siblings Sylvia Hill and husband Ray of Pensacola, FL, Dan Crockett and wife Carolyn of Bartlesville, OK, Ken Crockett and wife Patti Weaver of Cushing, OK; treasured grandchildren: Gannon Griffith of Stillwater, OK, Rayna Griffith of Lawton, OK, Sam Hill, II of Bartlesville as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents.
