Frank Evans
November 2, 1960 - January 29, 2025
Franklin Lloyd Evans, 64, of Braman, Oklahoma, walked again, but this time with Jesus, on January 29, 2025, in the OU Medical Center in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Frank was born on November 2, 1960, in Wellington, Kansas, to Don E. and Betty L. (Broce) Evans.
Frank attended Braman Public Schools and Vo-Tech, where he studied auto mechanics. He was involved in FFA (loved showing his pigs at stock shows) and played basketball. On October 28, 1978, homecoming night his senior year, he was involved in a pick-up accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down. He spent several months in Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, before receiving physical and occupational therapy in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Frank was able to return home and graduated with his senior class of 1979. Following graduation he attended driving school in Edmond and took computer classes at Vo-Tech.
Frank was a fighter. He did not have just one wreck, but three additional accidents. He battled bladder cancer, colon cancer, multiple sores and infections, and breathing issues. He “visited” too many hospitals to count. Many doctors and nurses learned from Frank’s various conditions; keeping them on their toes and scratching their heads. When doctors gave him 5-7 years to live, Frank showed them by living an additional 46 years, 3 months and 1 day.
Frank loved farming, raising and checking his cattle, fixing fence, going to the café to drink coffee, and going to the sale barn and farm auctions. Frank loved his Sooners, win or lose, OU was his team. He loved heckling with Oklahoma State fans. Teasing and being ornery was his middle name. When Frank was down and unable to get out, sports and westerns were the only shows on television.
Frank loved watching his nieces and nephew and great nieces and nephews in any activity they were involved with.
Adversity never got Frank down, his attitude always stayed positive. Frank conquered life with a smile and avid determination.
He is survived by his mother, Betty L. (Broce) Evans of Braman; brother, Steve Evans (Wendy) of Blackwell; sister, Diana Backus (John Smith) of Blackwell; nieces, Ashley Heitschmidt (Zack) of Blackwell, Amber Frieouf (Jeff) of Blackwell, Melissa Couch (Travis) of Chesapeake, Virginia; nephew, Jared Backus (Jess) of St. Augustine, Florida; great nieces, Halle Hightower and Brylea Gunter; great nephews, Bly Frieouf, Reid Frieouf, Ford Frieouf, Drew Frieouf and Brody, Koby and Connor; aunt, Pat Broce of Ponca City; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Evans; maternal grandparents, Eugene and Eldora Broce; paternal grandparents, Walter and Pauline Evans; uncle, Max Broce; and aunt, Della Rader.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 4th in the Braman Community (Methodist) Church with Rev. Daniel Rickman and Rev. Chris Stennet officiating. Burial will follow in the Braman Cemetery. Public visitation will be held on Monday, February 3rd at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Honorary casketbearers will be everyone who ever helped Frank. Whether you fixed his coffee, cut his food up, opened a door, fixed fence, chased cattle or stopped on the side of the road to check on him. ANYTHING! “You know who you are and I could not have done it without you. Thanks for helping." Frank.
Casketbearers will be Don Hobaugh, Travis Hobaugh, Dennis Kincaid, Kris Maple, Bobby Ray and Luke Short.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Braman Community (Methodist) Church, P. O. Box 99, Braman, Oklahoma 74632.
