Connie Schultz

Connie Sue Schultz

July 7, 1944 - April 17, 2025

Connie Sue Porter Schultz, 80, long time resident of Ponca City, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Willow Haven Nursing Home in Tonkawa after several years of diminished health due to Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s dementia. She was born July 7, 1944 at Ponca City Hospital, the only daughter of Orin C. and Delma Porter. She was married to Peter Robert Schultz until his passing on February 25, 2011.

Connie was a 1962 graduate of Ponca City High School. She played the clarinet in the Big Blue Band, and was a member of the Travel Club, Tri-Hi-Y, and President of the Penguin Club for shorthand dictation. She worked summers at Ponca City Country Club as well as at Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park with her cousin Beverly Watson Williams, and she spent a great deal of time with childhood friends Jo Del Novak Surber, Linda Heagy Holsonback, Carolyn Ball Robinson, Dorena Silva Fisher, and Joyce Sugg Snipes.

Following high school, Connie attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, then began work in the secretarial pool at the Conoco Refinery. Soon after, Connie began her life’s travels, living for periods of time in St. Louis, Indianapolis, Tulsa, Owasso, Tehran (Iran), Houston, and Dhahran (Saudi Arabia), as well as visiting England, the Netherlands, Bahrain, Cyprus, and St. Croix. After all her travels, Connie settled back in Ponca City to finish raising her family, see the twilight years of her parents, and look after her grandchildren later in life.

Family was always top of mind and priority one for Connie. Connie was extremely close to her father Orin, who taught her to fish, but more importantly, instilled the traits of loyalty and hard work. Connie worked tirelessly to see that her children and grandchildren had opportunities to grow and thrive, and she was a selfless caregiver to both parents and husband Peter in their dying days.

Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Schultz, and her parents Orin and Delma Porter, all of Ponca City. She is survived by her children Eric Schultz (Regina) of Gardner, KS, and Christy Gemmill of Ponca City; grandchildren Wyatt Schultz (Ashley), Kaylin Gemmill, and Milo Gemmill, all of Ponca City, Bethany Schultz of Olathe, KS, Olivia Schultz of Overland Park, KS, and Cameron Schultz of Scottsdale, AZ; and great grandchild Emmalynn Gemmill of Ponca City.

No services or visitation are planned at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted to Trout Funeral Home and Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK, 74601. Memories of Connie, and words of comfort for her family, may be shared at troutfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those so inclined consider memorial contributions to the American Parkinson Disease Association, the Alzheimer’s Association, or Willow Haven Nursing Home of Tonkawa.
