NOC Criminal Justice Team Compete in Kansas City

The Delta Kappa Epsilon chapter of the Criminal Justice Society at Northern Oklahoma College recently attended and competed at the American Criminal Justice Association National Conference and Competition in Kansas City, Mo from March 21-25.

This trip was only possible with fundraising efforts and a generous grant from the NOC Foundation.

The students were exposed to a great career fair that included local, county, state, and federal agencies in the criminal justice field. They were able to network with students, colleges, and universities from all over the United States.  Students also heard presentations from FBI Agent Enoch Laudie, two exonerees from the Innocence Project, and keynote speaker Matthew Horace about “choosing courage over avoidance.”

Students competed at the national level against all students who were considered lower division or students with 60 or fewer credit hours. NOC students competed in physical agility, crime scene investigation, and written knowledge exams on various topics.

The program is led by Troy Cochran, NOC Criminal Justice instructor.

The following are the students receiving awards:  Owen Hutcheson – Homeland Security (1^st Place), Individual Talent (1^st Place), Group Talent (1^st Place), Cassidy Edsall—Corrections (3^rd Place), Individual Talent (3^rd Place), Group Talent (1^st Place), Samantha Mears – Corrections (1^st Place), Homeland Security (2^nd Place), Seth Brockbank – Forensic Pathology (1^st Place),  Troy Cochran-Pro Division — Forensic Psychology (1^st Place), Police Management (2^nd Place), Corrections (3^rd Place), Juvenile Justice (3^rd Place).

Northern Oklahoma College, the state’s first public two-year community college, is a multi-campus, land-grant institution that provides high quality, accessible, and affordable educational opportunities and services.

NOC serves nearly 4,000 students through the home campus in Tonkawa, the branch in Enid, and NOC/OSU Gateway Program in Stillwater.  Of these students, about 80% receive financial aid and/or scholarships. 75% of NOC students complete their degree with zero debt.
