Newkirk motorcyclist dies after vehicle collision

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that a personal injury collision occurred at about 11:09 a.m. on Saturday on US-77 at Home Road, about 4.25 miles north of Newkirk, in Kay County.

The patrol said the accident involved a 2009 Dodge Journey driven by Tina Sindorf (SIC), 41, of Wichita, Kansas. Sindorf was not injured.

An 11 year old juvenile passenger in Sindorf’s vehicle was also not injured.

The second vehicle involved was a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Robert Dowell (SIC), 31, of Newkirk, Oklahoma. Dowell was transported by Newkirk EMS to AllianceHealth in Ponca City, Oklahoma. There he was pronounced deceased by medical professionals at AllianceHealth due to head, trunk internal, trunk external, and leg injuries.

The Highway Patrol’s report stated that Dowell’s vehicle was traveling northbound on US-77. Sindorf’s vehicle was traveling southbound. Sindorf’s vehicle crossed left of center for an unknown reason and swerved right, attempting to avoid Dowell’s vehicle. Dowell’s vehicle then struck Sindorf’s vehicle on the driver side. Seatbelts were equipped and in use in Sindorf’s vehicle. Airbags were also equipped in the vehicle and deployed. The report notes that a helmet was not in use by Dowell. The condition of the drivers at the time of the accident and the cause of the collision are under investigation.
