New Softball Coach Named for PCPS

Jeneva Nelson has been hired as the new head softball coach for Ponca City High School, pending board approval.
Jeneva Nelson is graduate from Frontier High School and Oklahoma State University. Straight out of school she played Division 1 softball at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. She transferred to Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma and earned the “player of the week” award 2x. While at SNU she was also on the first team to make it to the National Tournament.
She has coached a National Championship travel ball team and helped coach at NOC Tonkawa.
In high school she was the starting pitcher and led her team to their first ever State Tournament appearance. She was also named to the All-State softball team. She competed in fastpitch and slow-pitch softball, golf, cross country, cheer, and kept stats for the basketball team. She appeared all 4 years in state in golf and was awarded in all categories for cheer from UCA. She was a Top 10 recruit according to ESPN for pitching and was top 100 for all positions. She played with Texas Glory, Tulsa Elite, and Oklahoma Rage.
Jeneva is a mother of two girls, Kinzlie and Ever, ages 3 and 1. She is the oldest of 3 children. Her sister is Michaelanne Nelson an exceptional athlete. She is currently the head coach at Sayre and was a very successful high school and collegiate softball player. She graduated from Fort Hayes University. Newell Nelson, her brother was a football star at Morrison High School and is currently pursuing his degree in Wildlife Management at SWOSU.
Jeneva comes from a full-fledged softball family starting with her mother Jennifer Nelson who coached at Bristow and Perry. All the Nelson girls played sports at the collegiate level.
When not on the softball field Jeneva enjoys spending time and making memories with her girls. She enjoys watching them in gymnastics, going swimming, playing at Frontier City, and spending time with her family.
“I am so excited to get started with the great group of girls we have, and the ones we have coming up. There is so much potential for greatness and I can’t wait to see them achieve it. High school was my absolute favorite. Of all the teams and achievements, I received, it was on the high school field that I had the most fun. I cannot wait to share my passion and knowledge of the game with each of these talented girls and pass the love for the game I have on to them,” said Nelson.
“I am very excited to have Jeneva lead our Softball program. Jeneva is very passionate about the sport and most importantly, working with athletes,” said Athletic Director Jason Leavitt.
