Ponca City Public School new board member Nancy Zimmerschied was administered the Oath of Office by school board attorney Gary Bracken at the March 6 board meeting.
She is replacing Marvin Clark in Ward No. 2. Her term will run from 2017-2021.
After serving on the board for over 16 years, Clark decided not to file for re-election to give someone else the opportunity to serve on the board. Zimmerschied filed for the seat and ran unopposed. Clark served from 1996 until 2007 and again from 2014 to 2017. He was presented a plaque of appreciation expressing the district’s gratitude for his years of service.
Zimmerschied attended school at Roosevelt Elementary School, East Junior High and graduated from Po-Hi. She attended college at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa.
She is employed at Jupiter Sulphur Inc. in Ponca City, and her husband Randy works at Phillips 66. She and Randy have been married 14 years, and have three children. Their daughter Alexandria is a student at Woodlands Elementary School, and son Devin is attending West Middle School. Their oldest daughter Veronika is currently attending Oklahoma State University.
“I want to be on the school board because I am very passionate about children and their right to achieve a great education in the Ponca City Public School system,” Zimmerschied said. “I currently have two children in the district and a child who recently graduated. This gives me clear insight on what needs to be done to help improve our school system.”
“Everything is important when it comes to education, but children are the most important,” she said. “It is important that every child be given every skill and tool the great Ponca City teachers have to offer.”
