Muscogee (Creek) Nation to swear in new principal chief

OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) – Inauguration ceremonies for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s new principal chief and other elected officials are scheduled Saturday in Okmulgee.

Principal Chief-elect James Floyd will be sworn in after winning the Nov. 7 general election. Floyd is the former director of the Veterans Administration’s Jack C. Montgomery Medical Center in Muskogee and the Ernest Childers Clinic in Tulsa.

Second Chief Louis Hicks, who was unopposed for re-election, and other elected and re-elected districting governing officials will also be sworn in during the ceremony. They include Darrell Proctor; Del Beaver; Randall Hicks; Rufus Scott and Robert Hufft. Proctor and Hufft are incumbents.

The ceremony will be followed by hymn singing and tribal dancing. The public is invited to attend.
