Much colder weather on its way

Ponca City Emergency Management Director Paula Cain said much colder weather is on the way to Ponca City, starting this morning.

“By 10 a.m. today our current temperature will have dropped by 20 degrees,” she said at 9 a.m.  “Tonight’s low is forecast to be 38° with a Freeze Warning Saturday night for parts of the state.”

The cold front that is arriving this morning could bring some thunderstorms with it, Cain said.

“There is a Marginal Risk for some severe weather in our area; a much better chance in the SE quarter of the state,” she said.  “Wherever they occur, we can expect some strong, damaging winds and large hail, along with a very low chance of tornadoes.  The tornadoes will not be supercell variety, but quick, weak tornadoes that will pop up along the leading edge of the line.”

Cain said we will have a very cold Saturday morning, followed by a nice warm-up to 63.

“With the sunshine, it could be a perfect fall day.  Just what we have been waiting for!” she said.
