Ponca City Public Schools-
The Ponca City Middle School, under the direction of Katie Rolf and Ella Gordon, earned three excellent ratings on stage today at the OSSAA Orchestra Contest held at Edmond Santa Fe High School. The orchestra also earned a superior rating in the sight-reading room. This group was comprised of sixth, seventh and eighth grade students from East and West Middle Schools.
The orchestra performed “Out of the Winter” by Larry Clark and “Moonlight Tango” by Richard Meyer.
“It was so nice to be back on stage and competing again, plus it was a great learning experience for the majority of students who have never been to contest before,” said director Ella Gordon.
“We are so excited that the orchestra received a superior rating in the sight-reading room,” said director Katie Rolf. “The group had to perform a piece that they have never seen with only a 10-minute study period and our students stepped up the challenge.”
A special thank you to Paula Cochran for assisting with contest preparation.
The OSSAA Solo and Ensemble Contest has been rescheduled for this Thursday, March 3.
The Orchestras in Review Concert that was originally scheduled for Thursday has been cancelled.
