Men’s Mental Health Group to Meet at Pioneer Technology Center

Ponca City Now - May 2, 2024 5:58 am

Did you know 77% of men polled have suffered with symptoms of mental health conditions such as anxiety, stress, or depression? 40% say they have never spoken to anyone about their mental health with 29% stating they are “too embarrassed” and 20% saying there is a negative stigma on the issue. Men are expected to be strong, stoic and self-sufficient, making it difficult to acknowledge their struggles.

In an effort to help men have a safe place to discuss their mental health and other struggles, Grand Mental Health is beginning a mental health group tailored just for men. They will be exploring various scheduled topics related to fatherhood, marriage, and general men’s physical and mental health, but will have flexibility to explore topics that are on the minds of members of the group. This will be an open group in which men getting services at Grand Mental Health can join in at any time but is open to any man in the community who wants to come. Occasionally there will be speakers or projects, but the typical session will be somewhat planned.

Men will create a group that benefits them by evolving, learning trust, how to believe and heal.

The next meeting is Tuesday, May 14 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at  the Pioneer Technology Center at 2101 North Ash in Ponca City.

Normally meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday each month but due to the Pioneer Tech Center graduation, meeting will be held early in May. Men will create a group who evolve through trust, growth, believing in themselves and then can begin to heal.
