Beverly Cantrell - May 29, 2022 2:25 pm

Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May. The day is set aside for honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.

Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.

On Saturday, May 28th, flags were placed on veterans graves at 1OOF by local groups, the Ponca City VFW Post 1201 members with Commander Gary Miles, and several other volunteers to remember and honor those who served our country.

Flags were also placed on Veterans graves at Resthaven.

On Monday, May 30th, Memorial Day services will be held at 10:00 am at the Resthaven Memorial Cemetery at 1901 East Hubbard Road and at the 1OOF (Odd Fellows) Cemetery at 1206 South Waverly at 11:00 am.

The public is invited to attend these services to remember and honor veterans.
