OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Officials say a man has died after staying in his burning Oklahoma City home to try to extinguish the fire.
Oklahoma City Fire Department Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson said crews responding to the fire Saturday morning found heavy flames and smoke at the home.
Fulkerson says a woman escaped but her husband stayed behind to try to fight the fire. He never made it out of the house.
Fire officials stated that one dog died in the fire and another hadn’t yet been found.
The medical examiner’s office will determine the man’s cause of death.
Fulkerson says, “What we want people to do is just get out and just preserve your life.”
Fulkerson also reported that investigators are working to determine what sparked the fire.
