The Winfield Police Department has released more information about a Winfield man who suffered serious injuries Sunday involving a moving train.
At approximately 9:20 a.m. Sunday, members of the WPD and members of Winfield Fire/EMS were dispatched to the railroad tracks located in the 500 block of Main Street/U.S. 77 in Winfield for a report of a pedestrian being struck by a train.
Upon arrival, emergency crews located a 62-year-old Winfield man with serious injuries to his lower extremities. Immediate medical intervention measures were deployed on the individual and the man, who has not yet been identified by authorities, was transported to a Wichita-area hospital for further treatment.
“At this time, the accident is still under investigation,” the WPD said in its news release. “But, it is believed this was an accident and not an intentional act. It is believed the individual was attempting to crawl underneath the train while it was stationary, and when the train began moving this is when the accident and subsequent injuries occurred.”
The involved train company is WATCO.
At the time of the WPD’s news release Monday, there has not been an update on the status of the injured pedestrian.

A Winfield man was seriously injured early Sunday after contact with a moving train near Shindigs at the north end of Main Street/U.S. 77 in Winfield.
Winfield Police Chief Robbie DeLong told KSOK Sunday the victim is 62-years-old and was taken to a Wichita-area hospital.
DeLong said further details are still under investigation, but that more information is expected to be released Monday.
“(We) hope to have those answers soon,” DeLong said.
