On Saturday morning, Jesse Shae Simmons, 44, and Alyna Arran Alvarado, 33, both from Winfield, were arrested by the Arkansas City Police Department after a four-hour standoff in the 1300 block of North A Street.

The incident began when the police received a report of a woman threatening people with a gun at 11:34 a.m. Officers quickly arrived and found Simmons, who pointed a handgun at them and brandished a machete and hammer.

A perimeter was created, and additional resources were summoned from various agencies. After several unsuccessful attempts to contact Simmons, the occupants of the vehicle tried to move it, and the Kansas Highway Patrol introduced an armored vehicle to prevent the vehicle from leaving.

Alvarado surrendered first, and Simmons followed approximately four minutes later. Both women were taken into custody without injury and evaluated by medical personnel before being transported to the Cowley County Jail. Both are being held on a $100,000 bond for charges related to the incident in Ark City and an earlier one in the county. Both Simmons and Alvarado are facing charges that include several counts of aggravated assault.
