Stillwater Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Shooting After Apartment Altercation

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal weekend shooting in Stillwater.

According to the Stillwater Police Department (SPD), officers responded to a report of an assault on Saturday around 8:45 pm near N. Boomer.

Upon arrival, officers reportedly found a gunshot-wounded male victim inside. He was identified as a 43-year-old Jerry Silas.

Officials said Silas was transported to Stillwater Medical Center and later airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Silas was pronounced dead due to his injuries the following day.

Investigators learned that the shooting stemmed from an argument inside the apartment.

SPD detectives identified 47-year-old Damon Eugene Thomas Sr. as the suspect.

On Monday, a warrant was issued for Thomas on the charge of first-degree manslaughter after a former felony conviction.

Thomas was found and arrested in Oklahoma City.

He was taken to the SPD jail and will be transferred to the Payne County jail.

This investigation is still ongoing, and detectives are following up on more leads. There is potential for additional charges. This is an arrest, not a conviction. – SPD
