A Winter Weather Advisory in effect ’til 12 noon today.
Freezing rain likely, possibly mixed with sleet before 1pm, then a chance of rain or freezing rain between 1pm and 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 29. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.
Drivers in north-central and northeast Oklahoma are urged to be alert to changing weather conditions expected throughout the morning. Freezing temperatures and precipitation are in the forecast, and slick conditions could quickly develop on roadways. Caution should be used, especially on bridges and overpasses.
Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews are closely monitoring conditions in these areas, including the Tulsa metro, and trucks are staged to apply salt and sand when conditions change.
REMEMBER during snowy and icy conditions, motorists are asked to:
• Stay about 200 feet behind road clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
• Allow extra space between vehicles to provide adequate distance for braking.
• Be aware of “black ice,” which looks wet on the roadway but is a thin layer of ice.
• Be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time in reaching destinations.
