The National Weather Service in Norman has placed Kay County and surrounding counties to the west and south that goes from New Year’s Eve afternoon into the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.
Other counties included in the Winter Storm Watch are Noble, Grant, Garfield, Kingfisher, Canadian, Caddo, Blaine, Major, Alfalfa, Woods, Harper, Woodward, Ellis, Dewey, Roger Mills, Custer, Beckham and Washita. Cities included are Ponca City, Blackwell, Enid, Perry, Kingfisher, Hennessey, Okarche, Elk City, Sayre, Cordell, Burns Flat, Sentinel, Anadarko, Hinton, Yukon, Concho, El Reno, Buffalo, Laverne, Alva, Cherokee, Helena, Carmen, Medford, Pond Creek, Lamont, Wakita, Shattuck, Arnett, Gage, Fargo, Woodward, Fairview, Cheyenne, Hammon, Seiling, Vici, Taloga, Leedey, Weatherford, Clinton, Watonga, Geary, and Okeene.
The Winter Storm Watch even extends into Kansas to include areas such as Cowley and Sumner counties as winter weather is likely from Oklahoma City to Wichita, and Kansas City.
Heavy mixed precipitation will be possible as anywhere from 2 to 5 inches of snow is likely for the areas in Oklahoma included in the Winter Storm Watch, and places up in Kansas could see several inches. Ice accumulation for Oklahoma and Kansas could range from .10 to .25 of an inch.
