Kay county sees eleventh virus-related death and eight new COVID-19 cases

The Oklahoma State Department of Health is reporting 1,101 new positive COVID-19 cases for Wednesdayday, Aug. 5. Oklahoma has seen 40,564 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started, and 6,598 cases are active.

Out of the 17 virus-related deaths reported for Wednesday, one of those was in Kay County. The individual was a male from Blackwell in the 65 or older age group. This is the first virus-related death for Blackwell. Kay County also saw eight new COVID-19 cases, putting the county’s stats to 231 cases, 11 deaths and 182 recoveries. Out of the 39 active cases in Kay County, 28 are in Ponca City, five in Kaw City, three in Newkirk, two in Blackwell and one in Tonkawa.

Payne County is reporting its fourth virus-related death. The individual was a female in the 65 or older age group. Payne County also saw six new COVID-19 cases, putting the county’s stats to 687 cases, 4 deaths and 609 recoveries.

As for new cases in other local counties, Osage County has nine, Logan County with eight, Garfield County has seven, Washington County with four, Noble County has two and one for Pawnee County.

OSDH is reporting 1,064 new recoveries for Wednesday. This puts Okahoma’s recovery total to 33,383. In order for a recovery to count, the recovered patient must not be deceased or hospitalized and it has been 14 days since their report.

Health officials report that as of Wednesday, there have been 624,166 negative test results overall. Officials also report that there have been 3,4455 total hospitalizations, and 645 patients are currently hospitalized.
