The Blackwell Journal Tribune is reporting that Kay County Law Enforcement officials are asking for the public’s help in locating a man who led officers on a pursuit through Blackwell at around 9 p.m. Thursday.
Deputies with the Kay County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make contact with Cody Vaught in the 1100 block of West Blackwell Ave. on Thursday when he fled the scene. Sgt. Shannon Wathor with the Kay County Sheriff’s Office said Vaught is a suspect in a car theft that occurred last week in Osage County. The stolen vehicle was recovered south of Ponca City in Kay County. Vaught nearly hit two Blackwell Police officers as he entered a vehicle before hitting a curb and running off. Vaught has multiple felony warrants out for his arrest, Wathor said, but officials do not believe Vaught is a threat to the general public.

That wasn’t the only pursuit to take place in the Blackwell area this week. At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, Troop K of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol initiated a vehicle pursuit on a red Ford F-150 traveling southbound out of the city limits of Blackwell. The pursuit lasted approximately 20 minutes, spanning 19 miles down county roads with speeds ranging from 45 MPH to 100 MPH. The pursuit ended when the pickup failed to navigate a correction line, departing the roadway to the left into a ditch and then crossing back over the road while airborne and crashing into a tractor parked on the side of the road. The driver fled the scene but was caught by troopers just minutes later. Charges are pending. This is not a conviction.
