Two Ponca City residents were injured following a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 1:07 p.m. Friday afternoon at Hubbard Road and Union Street.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Lester Brochmann, 86, was driving 2014 Ram 2500 pickup northbound on Union when he failed to stop at the stop sign. Brochmann proceeded to cross Hubbard Road, but he crossed in front of a 1983 Ford pickup driven by Spenser Barnes, 23.
Barne’s vehicle struck Brochmann’s vehicle on the passenger side, causing it to depart the roadway to the left and strike a utility pole. Barnes’ vehicle also departed the roadway to the right, and rotated. Barnes was also ejected 10 feet from his vehicle.
Both Barnes and Brochmann were transported by ambulance to AllianceHealth Ponca City before they were airlifted to St. Francis in Tulsa in stable condition.
Brochmann suffered trunk internal and head injuries, while Barnes got head and leg injuries.
According to OHP, Brochmann was not using a seatbelt and cite failure to yield as the cause of the accident.
