The National Weather Service in Norman has placed Grant and Garfield counties, along with much of western Oklahoma, under a Red Flag Warning from 11 a.m. this morning and going until 9 p.m. tonight.
All of the counties included in the Red Flag Warning are Alfalfa, Grant, Major, Garfield, Blaine, Kiowa, Jackson, Harper, Woods, Ellis, Woodward, Roger Mills, Dewey, Custer, Beckham, Washita, Harmon and Greer.
Southwest winds at 15-25 mph with gusts of 35-40 mph are likely, humidity will be as low as 6% and temperatures could get up to 85 degrees. Any fires that start in this environment will be very difficult to control.
There is also a Wind Advisory today for a majority of Oklahoma, including Kay County, from 11 a.m. this morning until 6 p.m. this evening. Southwest winds 15-25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph are likely.
While the threat of fires exists today, there’s a small chance that areas across northern Oklahoma could see a possible thunderstorm Wednesday evening as we enter a wet pattern going into the weekend. The National Weather Service has areas from Oklahoma City and north under a marginal risk for severe weather Wednesday night. The better chance of storms will be in Kansas where a slight risk for severe weather exists.
