Beginning today, Oklahoma is waiving some requirements for anyone who wants to become a school bus driver. The change is designed to help alleviate a shortage of drivers.
Oklahoma is one of several states temporarily waiving the portion of the commercial driver’s license skills test requiring school bus drivers to identify under-the-hood engine components. Drivers working to get a CDL license for a bus will still have to demonstrate the ability to safely operate the special features of a school bus.
Things that will be tested on other pre-trip inspection skills include engine starting, steering, suspension and brakes.
The waiver expires on March 31, 2022.
