So what is an essential business?

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt on Tuesday announced restrictions to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, which include closing nonessential businesses in counties where positive cases of the virus are reported. That would now include Kay, Osage and other surrounding counties except for Grant. But just what is an essential business?

According to the governor, the non-essential businesses include: hair salons, gyms, theaters, massage parlors, tattoo parlors, and museums. Restaurants are encouraged to remain open, while offering curbside/drive thru and delivery, but to close dine-in areas,

Stitt shared guidance from the government, clarifying just who is considered as essential, critical infrastructure workers: They include workers involved in:

Healthcare / public health

Law enforcement, public safety, first responders

Food and agriculture

Energy

Water and wastewater

Transportation and logistics

Public works

Communications and information technology

Other community-based government operations and essential functions

Critical manufacturing

Hazardous materials

Financial services

Chemical

Defense industrial Base

According to Gov. Stitt’s office, medical marijuana dispensaries will also be considered an essential business.
