The National Weather Service offices in Norman, Tulsa and Wichita have issued Red Flag Warnings for much of northern and western Oklahoma, along with southern Kansas, from noon today until late this evening.
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Winds out of the south could get as high as 30 mph in areas with possible gusts of 40 mph. Humidity is expected to be down in the 20% to 30% range.
Listed below are the counties within the three given office areas that are under the Red Flag Warning
OKLAHOMA
NWS Norman (Until 9 p.m. tonight): Harper, Woods, Alfalfa, Grant, Kay, Ellis, Woodward, Major, Garfield, Noble, Roger Mills, Dewey, Custer, Blaine, Kingfisher, Logan, Payne, Beckham, Washita, Caddo, Canadian, Harmon, Greer, Kiowa, Jackson, Tillman and Comanche.
NWS Tulsa (Until 7 p.m. this evening): Osage, Washington, Pawnee, Nowata, Tulsa, Rogers and Creek.
KANSAS
NWS Wichita (Until 9 p.m. tonight): Reno, Harvey, Butler, Greenwood, Kingman, Sedgwick, Harper, Sumner, Cowley, Elk, Chautauqua, Rice, McPherson, Marion and Chase.
Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and become very difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
