Chief Don Bohon of the Ponca City Police Department warns that many scammers are using the COVID-19 scare to attempt to gain access to your personal information and money.

Bohon says “unscrupulous people” are using scams that focus on taxes and the IRS, social security, contests and sweepstakes. He says other scams appear to be about government benefit payments, unemployment benefits, medical issues, insurance and online banking. The Chief reminds you NOT to reveal personal information, banking or tax information to anyone who calls or emails you.

If you do fall prey to one of these scams, report it to Law Enforcement and your financial institutions immediately.
