Jerry Harris, 66, of Ponca City is facing a $5 million bond after committing 1st degree homicide last Friday at around 1 p.m. in the 500 block of West Liberty.

Harris is accused of strangling his wife, Kathleen Jones, 55, who was later pronounced dead at AllianceHealth Ponca City. Harris told police to arrest him because his wife is dead and deserves to be.

According to the Ponca City News, Det. Sergeant Shane Pruitt took Harris into the video/recording interview room at 1:45 p.m. where Harris confessed to killing his wife with the following quote.

“I married my wife in 2016 and we have been arguing a lot this past year. Today she kept poking at me,” Harris said. He also said that he choked her for about five minutes. “She begged for her life once asking me to stop. I am sorry I did it and will take the consequences. I couldn’t take it anymore but I am not sorry,” he said in his statement.

According to an affidavit, Det. Sergeant Josh Henderson spoke with family members that were at the scene and told him that the couple was in the process of separating.

Harris is currently in the Kay County Detention Center, and is set for a court appearance on this upcoming Friday, July 24.
