PCPS Names New Head Softball Coach

Jaden Hawkins-Wedel has been hired as the new head softball coach for Ponca City Public Schools. She grew up in Ponca City and was the Lady Cats short-stop from 2011-2015. She is a graduate of Ponca City High School and went on to play softball for the Northern Oklahoma College Jets in Enid before transferring to Northwestern Oklahoma State University to complete her bachelor’s degree.

Coach Hawkins teaches English at Ponca City High School and is an assistant eighth grade girls basketball coach. Coach Hawkins and her husband, Jared, reside in Ponca City, along with her parents Jason and DaLana Hawkins. Her brother Daylan, also a Po-Hi graduate, is completing his senior year of college at Southern Nazarene University.

“I’m very excited to lead the Ponca City Lady Cats softball program. I worked and played on this very field. I have great respect for the talented players, parents, fans and our community. I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to empowering players and this program. Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat!” she said.

Jason Leavitt, athletic director, said, “We are very excited and proud to announce Po-Hi alum Jaden Hawkins-Wedel as our new head softball coach. She has shown that she is dedicated to developing our student-athletes on and off the field.”
