From Ponca City Public Schools:

ALERT!!! DANGEROUS SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGE

It has come to our attention at Ponca City Public Schools that there is a dangerous social media challenge making the rounds. It is called the Momo Challenge. The Momo Challenge may pop up on Facebook, YouTube, Kids YouTube, or other social media platforms. Momo has been seen in videos that include Fortnite, Peppa Pig and other forms of YouTube media targeted for children. Below you will find a description of the Momo Challenge from CBS News:

“When children participate in the challenge, they contact a stranger concealing themselves as “Momo” using a creepy image and communicate primarily through the Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp. Momo encourages a participant to complete various tasks if they want to avoid being “cursed.” Some of the tasks include self-harm, which Momo asks the participant to provide photographic evidence in order to continue the game. Ultimately, the game ends with Momo telling the participant to take their own life and record it for social media.”

Ponca City Public Schools want to make sure parents are aware of the dangers of social media access, so they can educate their own children. Always be vigilant and supervise what your children view on digital devices to protect their mental health and safety.
