The Oklahoma State Department of Health is reporting 4,827 new COVID-19 cases for Friday, Dec. 4. Oklahoma’s seen 208,875 COVID-19 cases overall as 29,451 cases are active.
According to KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City and OSDH, the reason being for the sharp increase in cases is largely attributed to an issue with the department’s PHIDDO internal report system, causing numbers being backlogged to Friday.
A total of 24 virus-related deaths were documented to put Oklahoma’s death toll to 1,860. Three of those deaths include a Logan County female, an Osage County male and Washington County male all in the 65 or older age group.
Kay County saw an increase with 62 new COVID-19 cases, putting the county at 2,032 COVID-19 cases, 26 deaths and 1,654 recoveries. As for the 352 active cases in Kay County, there are 285 for Ponca City, 39 for Blackwell, 28 for Newkirk, 15 for Tonkawa, two for Kaw City and one for Braman.
As for new cases in local counties, there are 95 for Payne, 82 for Garfield, 60 for Logan, 51 for Washington, 45 for Osage, 16 for Noble, 13 for Grant and eight for Pawnee.

OSDH is also reporting 3,395 new recoveries for Friday, putting Oklahoma’s recovery total to 177,564. In order for a recovery to count, the recovered patient must not be deceased or hospitalized and it has been 14 days since their report.
As of Thursday, there have been 1,982,769 negative test results, 12,949 hospitalizations and 1,687 people currently hospitalized.
