From August 8-14, 15,490 new COVID-19 cases, 12,621 recoveries and 82 deaths were documented. This is a 10% increase in new cases compared to August 1-7. 30,111 cases have been hospitalized. 19,181 specimens have been tested over the last 7 days according to the CDC COVID data tracker. The average age of cases was 40 years and average age of individuals who died was 74. The youngest case less than a year old and the oldest case was 100+ years old. The youngest individual to die from COVID-19 was less than 15 years and the oldest to die was 100+ years.
According to OSDH, 3,631,632 doses of the vaccine have been administered. From August 10-16, 61,623 first doses were administered. This includes 38,484 rounds of one dose and 24,112 Oklahomans becoming fully vaccinated. 46.5% of the Kay County population has received at least one dose while 37.6% is fully vaccinated. As of August 16, Oklahoma’s seen 4,394 total breakthrough cases. Within the last 30 days, 2,193 non-vaccinated individuals and 185 fully vaccinated individuals have been hospitalized.
Oklahoma’s current trend with new positive cases continues to reflect community transmission, which can be reduced by getting the COVID-19 vaccine, keeping 6 feet of physical distance from others, wearing face coverings when around individuals from outside the household, avoiding touching your face, and regular hand-washing.
Oklahoma currently ranks 25th in the number of total reported COVID-19 cases in the U.S. and 11th in the cumulative incidence (per 100,000 persons) of reported COVID-19 cases in the U.S.
