Cowley County Emergency Management was made aware Tuesday that a NOAA Weather Radio tower that serves Cowley County is not working properly.
There are three towers that cover Cowley County with overlapping coverage areas. CCEM checked with the NWS office in Wichita and the towers in Beaumont and Wichita are working properly. CCEM checked with the NWS office in Norman, OK. Their tower in Ponca City did experience an issue last week. They have put up a temporary antenna, but at a lower height of 500′. Parts are ordered and once those arrive, repairs will be made. The tower is running at full power, but the lower antenna is limiting the coverage area to Kay Co. only.
This is a good reason to have multiple ways to receive notifications. Find ways to sign up for alerts for the county that you reside in.
