Mavs softball drops two at Cowley College

 

  ARKANSAS CITY, Kansas — The Northern Oklahoma College Maverick softball team dropped a twinbill to Cowley College Friday in Arkansas City, Kansas.

  The Mavs (2-8) dropped the first game 10-2 and the nightcap 14-12.

  In Game 1, the Mavs scored both their runs in the 2nd inning on a two-run double by Kaylie Murray scoring Katelyn Yee and Katie Light.

  Jenna Chassie and Laney Hover combined in the circle for NOC.

  In Game 2, the Maverick bats came to life as NOC outhit the Tigers 15-10.  Katelyn Yee had two home runs and six runs batted in while Kylee Burns also homered for NOC.

  Maggie Landes, Rachel Rumsey, Hallie Durkee, Murry, and Yee each had two hits for the Mavs.

  “It was a tough day in the circle for us,” said coach Tori Wilde.  “We have to be better at spinning the ball and hitting spots. Offensively, we started off slow and it hurt us in the first game. In the second game, we were strong at the plate. We just have to get better defensively and keep working hard.”

Mavs baseball splits games at Pratt

 

  PRATT, Kansas – The 6th ranked Northern Oklahoma College Mavs baseball team split two road games Saturday at Pratt, Kansas.

  NOC (11-2) won the first game 2-1 in eight innings and dropped the night cap 2-1.

  “Both our starters (Jacob Ellis and Blake Hubbard) had strong outings,” said Mavs’ coach Ryan Bay.  “We also had big performances from Bryson Armstrong, Kirby Lohrengel, and Josh Bumgarner out of the pen.  We pitched well enough to get the sweep but just failed to string hits together at the right time in Game 2.  We have to give Pratt pitchers credit.  Looking forward to getting another crack at them Friday at our place.”

  In Game 1, the Mavs scored the go-ahead run in the 8th inning when Jaken Snider drove home Ben MacNaughton with a two-out single to give the Mavs a 2-1 lead.

  In the 4th, the Mavs took a 1-0 lead on an rbi ground out from Giovanni Blackshaw that scored Bryan Burgos.

  Armstrong earned the win in relief tossing 2.1 innings of scoreless relief in back of starter Jacob Ellis.  Lohrengel earned the save with a perfect 8th inning.

  In Game 2, the Mavs lost on a passed ball in the 7th inning 2-1.

  The Mavs had six hits, Sean Klein homered for the Mavs.  Klein had three hits on the day for NOC.

  Blake Hubbard took the loss on the mound allowing one run on four hits over five innings.
