Homer Nicholson won his fifth term as Ponca City Mayor following Tuesday’s election with 85 percent of the totals votes cast, defeating somewhat of an unwilling challenger Fed McCullough.
432 votes of the 507 ballots were in Nicholson’s favor. The low turnout at the polls and large margin Nicholson defeated his opponent by may have come as little surprise since McCullough had previously indicated that he did not desire to fill the office if elected and was merely on the ballot because he didn’t withdraw his name from the hat early enough to allow Nicholson to run unopposed.
As for the school bonds for Frontier and Shidler, both were approved by large margins, with relatively better turnout at the polls. The bond issue for Shidler received 73 “yes” votes and 57 “no” votes in Kay County with a total of 130 ballots cast. Overall, Shidler’s bond issue brought in 253 “yes” votes and 75 “no” votes in Osage County.
Frontier’s bond question brought in a total of 103 “yes” votes and 15 “no” votes. All Frontier district bond question came from Noble County. Both ballots cast in Kay County were in favor of the bond.
The numbers are still unofficial until certified later today, Friday, according to the election officials in Kay, Noble and Osage Counties.
