After technical issues which caused a low amount of cases reported Sunday and Monday, the Oklahoma State Department of Health is reporting more than 1,700 positive COVID-19 cases, including the 893 cases for Tuesday, July 21.
Some of the new cases discovered are related to the under-reporting for Sunday and Monday. There have now been 26,326 positive COVID-19 cases in Oklahoma since the start of the pandemic, and 5,663 cases are active.
According to the live conference on Tuesday, Oklahoma’s Interim Health Commissioner Col. Lance Frye, M.D., said that the state’s COVID-19 reporting system was never built to take on a pandemic and has crashed several times. However, Frye then said that they are working with a company to patch the problem until a new system is implemented. The timing as to when the new system will be ready remains unknown.
The report for Tuesday shows that Kay County has six additional positive COVID-19 cases, putting the county’s overall total to 153 cases, 9 deaths and 118 recoveries. There are 23 active cases in Ponca City, and one each for Blackwell, Newkirk and Tonkawa.
Neighboring Noble County saw its second virus-related death. The individual was a man from Billings in the 65 or older group. This is among the nine virus-related deaths reported for Tuesday. Oklahoma’s death toll is now at 461.
Noble county also saw three new COVID-19 cases, putting the county to 61 cases, 2 deaths and 48 recoveries.
As for new cases in other local counties, Payne County has 23, Garfield County with seven, six for both Osage and Washington counties and Logan County has three. The number of COVID-19 cases for Pawnee County dropped from 85 overall to 84. You can see complete details for local counties at the bottom of the article.
OSDH is reporting 913 new recoveries, putting Oklahoma’s recovery total at 20,663. Health officials report that there have been up to 472,057 total negative specimens. Officials also say that there have been 2,429 total hospitalizations, and 613 patients are currently hospitalized.
According to a graph posted at coronavirus.health.ok.gov, the group with the most COVID-19 cases appears to be the 18-35 age group who has seen 36.43% of the cases. For other groups, 21.88% are in the 36-49 age group, 17.46% in the 50-64 age group, 14.22% in the 65 or older age group, 7.82% in the 5-17 age group and 2.19% in the 0-4 age group.
