One man is injured following an accident that occurred at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday night at the intersection of Prospect and LA Cann in Ponca City.
Bryan Dowell, 31, of Lamont was driving a 2021 Chevy Camaro northbound on LA Cann, attempted to pass a vehicle in a no passing zone and met another vehicle. Dowell then continued northbound and lost control of the vehicle, departed the roadway to the right and struck a concrete cylinder. The vehicle then began to roll 3 times, ejecting the driver and coming to rest in the trees facing northbound.
According to reports, the driver was intoxicated. The cause of the accident was sited as unsafe speed and improper passing. Seatbelts were equipped in the vehicle, but not in use at the time of the accident.
Dowell was transported by Ponca City EMS to Ponca City Alliance Health Hospital and later transferred to Saint John’s Hospital in Tulsa where he was admitted in good condition with head and neck injuries.
The accident was investigated by Trooper Crompton #851 of Troop K. Assisted by Trooper Vaughan #832 of Troop K, Ponca City Police Department, Ponca City Fire Department and Ponca City EMS.
