The Citizens Academy is a 12 week program, which meets on Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 9:00pm at the Kay County Sheriff’s Office. Community involvement is the most powerful tool a law enforcement agency has in the fight against crime. This academy is designed to promote better understanding between the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Kay County. Citizens will learn about virtually every aspect of a deputy’s job from recruiting, administration, patrol operations, dispatch communications, traffic enforcement, criminal law, juvenile offenders, detectives, crime scene investigations, K9 operations and the corrections facility and many other areas. Important: This training is not designed to certify citizens to perform law enforcement services. It is to enhance community relations and to provide citizens with insights into the criminal justice system. All applicants must reside in the Kay County Area. Must be 18 years old or older to attend. And must pass background check before being accepted into the academy. After the academy, you will become more aware of your surroundings in your daily lives. And you will have the tools necessary to help the Kay County Sheriff’s Office as well as other area Law Enforcement in the prevention of crime and help keep our community safe.
