Kay County and surrounding areas see increase in COVID-19 cases over the weekend

The Oklahoma State Department of Health is reporting 1,445 new positive COVID-19 cases over the weekend, Aug. 15-16. Oklahoma has now seen 48,342 cases since the start of the pandemic, and 7,457 cases are active.

Kay County has seen 10 new COVID-19 cases and six new recoveries over the weekend, putting the overall total to 266 cases, 11 deaths and 225 recoveries. As for active cases in the county, Ponca City has 20, Blackwell with six, Kaw City and Newkirk both have two and Tonkawa has one.

OSDH is reporting 17 new virus-related deaths for Saturday and Sunday. No details have been released regarding the four deaths on Sunday.

Out of the 13 deaths for Saturday, one individual was from Garfield County. Garfield County has also seen 54 new COVID-19 cases.

As for new cases in other local counties over the weekend, Osage County has the most with 21, Washington County has 20, Pawnee County with 13, Logan County has seven, Payne County with six and two for Noble County.

OSDH is also reporting that 942 more individuals in Oklahoma have recovered from COVID-19, putting the state’s recovery total to 40,224. In order for a recovery to count, the recovered patient must not be deceased or hospitalized and it has been 14 days since their report.

More data from Sunday shows that 696,345 negative test results, 3,953 total hospitalizations and 506 individuals currently hospitalized.
