Interstate 35 between Blackwell and Tonkawa is planned to be repaved. The Oklahoma Transportation Commission on Monday awarded nearly $6.6 million contract to Lemon Construction Co. out of Oklahoma City to resurface about 11 miles of Interstate 35 in Kay County.

The project’s set to start in early 2022. Areas resurfaced will be from just south of US-60 (mm 214) at Tonkawa to just north of SH-11 (mm 222) at Blackwell.

This will go on as bridge construction continues between Braman Rd. (mm 230) and US-177 (mm 231) at Braman through summer 2022. The nearly $11 million contract was awarded to Wildcat Construction Co., of Wichita, Ks. The project includes replacement of the I-35 bridges over the Blackwell Northern Railroad between Braman Rd. and US-177.
