The Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to a fatality collision that occurred at 12:37 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 177, 1 mile north of Blackwell in Kay County.
According to the OHP report, Billy Dean Burrow Sr., 71, of Hunnewell, Ks., was driving a 1990 Ford Pick Up northbound on U.S. 177. For an unknown reason, the vehicle departed the roadway to the left and struck a concrete culvert. Burrow was pinned in his vehicle for approximately 1 hour and 28 minutes until extricated by Blackwell Fire Department utilizing the hurst tool.
Burrow was pronounced dead on scene due to injuries sustained in the collision. The passenger, Stanley Cook, 53, who is also from Hunnewell, Ks., was transported by Life Flight to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Ks. where he was treated and released.
The report states that Burrow was not using a seat belt, and Cook was. Airbags were not equipped.
The accident was investigated by Trooper Daniel Bassett #880 of Troop K. Assisted by Trooper John Terrell #516, Blackwell Fire, Blackwell Police Department and Life flight.
