The National Weather Service has placed Kay County and surrounding areas under a Red Flag Warning that goes from 11 a.m. Monday morning until 8 p.m. Monday evening.
All counties included in NWS Norman’s Red Flag Warning are Harper, Woods, Alfalfa, Grant, Kay, Ellis, Woodward, Major, Garfield, Noble, Roger Mills, Dewey, Custer, Blaine, Kingfisher, Logan, Payne, Beckham, Washita, Harmon, Greer, Kiowa and Jackson. There’s also a Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Tulsa for Osage and Pawnee counties that also goes from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A Red Flag Warning is issued due to low humidity, warm temperatures and high winds. South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are possible. Minimum humidity between 13 to 20 percent in western Oklahoma and western north Texas, and between 20 and 25 percent across central and north central Oklahoma are likely. High temperatures across Oklahoma will range from 75 to 84.
Any fires that start in this environment will be very difficult to control.
There is also a Wind Advisory in effect for the same areas from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.
