The National Weather Service has placed Kay County and surrounding areas under a Heat Advisory for Tuesday, lasting from noon until 6 p.m.
Ponca City looks to have a high temperature near 99 with a heat index near 104. Some parts of Oklahoma could see a heat index as high as 109.
Other local counties besides Kay County in the Heat Advisory in the NWS Norman coverage area are Grant, Garfield, Noble, Kingfisher, Logan and Payne counties.
As for counties in the NWS Tulsa coverage area, Osage, Pawnee and Washington counties are under a Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
The NWS offices in Tulsa and Norman would like to remind people to take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. >>to reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 911.
