The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a Heat Advisory for Kay County and much of central and western Oklahoma from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. And the National Weather Service in Tulsa has also issued a Heat Advisory for Osage and Pawnee counties from Noon until 8 p.m.
The Ponca City area could see a heat index near 104. Some parts of Oklahoma could have a heat index as high as 110 according to NWS Norman.
If you’re going to be working outside on Friday, remember to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and take any extra precautions. NWS recommends rescheduling strenuous activities to either the early morning or late evening if possible.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
Heat strokes are an emergency. Call 911 if needed. And check up on friends/family members.
Do NOT leave children and/or pets in hot vehicles.
