A personal injury collision occurred at 3:28 a.m. Saturday morning on I-35 northbound at mile marker 179, approximately 6 miles south of Perry in Noble County.
Tyler Schultz, 30, of Gwinnett, GA. was driving a 2019 Honda Accord northbound on I-35 in the outside lane. Schultz rear-ended the rear of the trailer of a 2017 Kenworth semi, driven by John Charles Ramsey II, 51, of Oklahoma City. The semi came to a stop facing eastbound in the inside lane. This caused the semi to be struck by a 2005 Ford Explorer driven by David Pelkey, 74, of Liberty, MO.
Schultz was transported by Trooper Snyder #271 to Stillwater Medical Center – Perry. He was admitted in stable condition with trunk internal injuries. Schultz’s passenger, Erica Hibbink, 25, of Stillwater refused treatment. Ramsey and Pelkey were not injured. Also not suffering any injuries was Pelkey’s passenger, Curtis Smith, 58, of Liberty, MO.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s report, Schultz was driving under the influence. DUI was listed as the cause of the accident. Ramsey and Pelkey were apparently in normal condition. The weather was rainy at the time of the accident. Seat belts were equipped and in use by all victims. While Ramsey’s semi was not applicable, airbags did deploy for the other two vehicles.
The accident was investigated by LT Leach #167 of the Noble County Detachment of Troop K. Assisted by Trooper Snyder #271 of Troop K, Perry Police Department, Noble County Sheriff Department, Perry Fire Department, and Perry EMS.
