The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Kay County and a majority of Oklahoma for Friday going from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
All the Oklahoma counties in the Fire Weather Watch are Harper, Woods, Alfalfa, Grant, Kay, Ellis, Woodward, Major, Garfield, Noble, Roger Mills, Dewey, Custer, Blaine, Kingfisher, Logan, Payne, Beckham, Washita, Caddo, Canadian, Oklahoma, Lincoln, Grady, McClain, Cleveland, Pottawatomie, Seminole, Hughes, Harmon, Greer, Kiowa, Jackson, Tillman, Comanche, Stephens, Garvin, Murray, Pontotoc, Coal, Cotton, Jefferson, Carter, Johnston, Atoka, Love, Marshall and Bryan.
Winds out of the southwest at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph along with humidity as low as 20% are forecasted. High winds and low humidity are a fuel for fires and that’s why the watch is issued for Friday.
Any fires that start in this environment will be very difficult to control.
