The Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to a one vehicle accident that occurred at 7:49 p.m. Sunday evening on State Highway 18 south of County Road 1836 north of Fairfax in Osage County.
A 14-year-old girl, who did not have her name released, was driving a 2020 Nissan Altima northbound on SH-18 when she failed to negotiate a curve to the left, causing the vehicle to depart the roadway to the right. The girl then overcorrected to the left, re-entered the roadway and then departed the roadway to the right once again.
The vehicle traveled approximately 60 feet and struck an embankment before rolling approximately one-and-a-half times, travelling an additional 90 feetwhere it came to rest on it’s top.
The teen was ejected and pinned under the vehicle for approximately 36 minutes. She was extricated by the Fairfax Fire Department and airlifted to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa where she is admitted in critical condition with trunk internal and leg injuries.
OHP Troopers listed the cause of the accident as unsafe speed on a curve.
The accident was investigated by Trooper Robert Regnier No. 219 of the Pawnee/Osage County detachment of Troop K, Osage County Sheriff’s Department, Fairfax Police Department, Fairfax Fire Department and Miller EMS.
