The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Kay and Noble Counties is preparing for spring training. CASA of Kay and Noble Counties provides trained volunteers to advocate for children who are victims of abuse and neglect. Children who are under the purview of the court due to neglect and abuse that they have experienced.
Trained advocates are appointed by the court system to provide recommendations to the judge in the case providing the independent looks at the need of the child or children in a particular case. Abused and neglected children in Kay and Noble Counties need a voice for them in the court system, with nearly 300 children who are under the courts’ jurisdiction due to abuse and neglect, the need is great. There are currently 30 CASA Advocates serving in Kay and Noble Counties.
CASA Program Director Sharon Mocabee-Sisco said that their goal is to provide a CASA member to all children who are victims in Kay and Noble Counties. Sisco said that they are far from that goal, but would love to see members of local communities step up to the plate and help fill the gap.
The training classes are 30 hours in length and are done online and in person with the classes being over the course of 5 weeks. There are two classes being offered during the spring.
