An Arkansas City, Kansas man was killed in a one-vehicle accident just before 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning on U.S. 77 and State Line Road, about 7.5 miles north of Newkirk in Kay County.
According to KFOR-TV, Andrew Banta, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Andrew was driving a 2016 Jeep Wrangler northbound on U.S. 77 when he departed into the center median for an unknown reason and struck a delineator.
Andrew continued to drive in the median for 1/10th of a mile before striking a yield sign. The vehicle then rolled three times and came to rest 256 feet north of the Oklahoma/Kansas border. OHP says that Banta was ejected 15 feet.
OHP listed the cause of collision as DUI. Banta was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred.
