On Monday, Kay County Treasurer, Christy Kennedy said that the 2021 ad valorem tax statements have been mailed.
“As many of you know our treasurer’s office, along with the county clerk, assessor’s and election board offices, are in a transition period. These offices will be moving over the next few weeks,” said Kennedy.
“Our goal is to always be able to serve you, whether it is in our current treasurer’s office in the courthouse or in our new office in the Kay County Administration Building. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.”
Kennedy said that taxpayers can use either the current courthouse address, 201 S. Main or the new address 219 S Main, when returning statements.
“Taxpayers can also pay online at kaycounty.org at no additional charge when using eCheck,” said Kennedy.
“If you pay by credit or debit card, an additional fee will be charged by the credit card processing company. Instructions for paying in the office, by mail or on-line are included in each mailed envelope.”
Kennedy said that half of the taxes must be paid before Jan. 1 to avoid being delinquent and the second half is due before April 1.
“The most important thing to remember when making a half payment is to retain the middle portion of the tax statement,” she said. “You will need that portion to make your second half payment. Taxpayers who mail their tax payment and wish to receive a receipt should include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Property owners whose monthly mortgage payment includes their property taxes will not receive a statement. The statement goes to the company holding their mortgage when the mortgage company requests it. All other taxpayers who do not receive a statement, and feel they should have, should contact the Kay County Treasurer’s office.”
