The Oklahoma State Department of Health is reporting 1,497 new positive COVID-19 cases for Tuesday, Jan. 5. Oklahoma’s seen 308,268 COVID-19 cases overall as 34,004 cases are active.
A total of 19 virus-related deaths were documented on Tuesday to put Oklahoma’s death toll to 2,571. Out of the 19, two of those were for Garfield county men, one being in the 50-64 age group, while the other male was in the 65 or older age group. Other new local deaths to report include a Pawnee County male and Payne County female that were both in the 65 or older age group.
Kay County saw an increase with 16 new COVID-19 cases, putting the county at 3,540 cases, 34 deaths and 3,021 recoveries. Data for Kay County communities is posted below:

As for new COVID-19 cases in local counties, there are 28 for Garfield, 23 for Osage, 14 for Payne, nine for Logan, eight for Washington, five for Pawnee and three each for Grant and Noble. Complete data for local counties can be seen below:

OSDH also reported 4,120 new recoveries for Tuesday, putting Oklahoma’s recovery total to 271,693. In order for a recovery to count, the recovered patient must not be deceased or hospitalized and it has been 14 days since their report.
Health officials report that as of Tuesday, there have been 2,429,765 total negative test results, 17,554 hospitalizations and 1,909 people currently hospitalized due to COVID-19. There are 488 patients in ICU.
OSDH announced Tuesday that they plan to launch an online registration portal to help Oklahomans determine when they’re eligible for the vaccine and how to schedule. The registration portal will be functional for all Oklahomans on Thursday.
